AIGA trip
My trip to the AIGA workshops was very informative. I enjoyed the Hands on worksop on how to screen print. Norman allowed us to try screen printing on tote bags and explained very well the process and equipment. Meeting With Angelo Outlaw was especially eye opening. His first hand knowledge of what it means to be an in-house designer was very helpful. Everything from getting to know a business very well to the difficulty of doing the same work for a company repetitively was all expressed. Networking was also a main staple of these workshops. Meeting people with similar interests and more knowledge of the design world was very exciting.
Color Video
The color wheel has been used since about the 1700's. It is useful in understanding which colors can be placed correctly by each other. The standard color wheel has 12 standard colors. There are different types of color wheels available, an example would be the RGB color wheel. All colors have three things that can affect it, hue, saturation and value. Hue is another word for color, Saturation refers to a colors balance. Grey's and browns are both colors created by desaturated colors on the color wheel. Value is very important. Without it there is no colors. Value tells us where one color ends and another begins. Three things should be looked at when analyzing a color, value, saturation and hue. Value establishes visible clarity. It is important to calibrate monitors and printers in order to be accurate when printing. When calibrating it Is important it to save initial calibration settings. It is important to calibrate in the lighting you use. it is important to ask and look around, asking other people how they calibrate their monitors. If color is very important to your work you should invest in a professional calibration tool. RGB, CMYK and SPOT are the most commonly used by designers. RGB values range from 0 to 255. They are light based and for on screen used. CMYK is mostly used in printing. SPOT colors are pre made colors used for printing. These are offered in swatch forms on computers and print as well. It is important to for colors that your client is looking for. Color can he

Marian Bantjes
Marian Bantjes went from meeting with clients and and using the same process with each client to determine a solution, to not interacting with the client at all. She became the person who designers went to for type to be created as well as images. She left the city, commuting to work everyday, interacting with co-workers and clients, to living on in island full time in her creative space/ living space. Like many designers she used computers mainly, but enjoys using hands on techniques more then computers. When she wasn't getting commissioned work she spent her time creating what she wanted and getting he work out to the world. During her 40's she committed to creating works inspired by love and Valentines day as well. She went on to create works inspired by holidays like Christmas as well as continuing her work with Valentines day works. Marian creates most of her works by hand first and then continues on the computer instead of beginning on the computer. Marian was a opinionated blogger who wrote articles about topics from santa to deconstructing the alphabet. Marian is an awesome designer and creator with a unique ornamental style that is ever changing. She is constantly creating new designs and they are all more creative then the last. With a style influenced by illuminated manuscripts her work is easily identifiable.
